InterContinental New York Barclay has unveiled the redesign of its presidential suite and its newly constructed Harold S. Vanderbilt penthouse. The accommodations mark the culmination of the hotel’s $180 million, 20-month renovation by InterContinental Hotel Group Design Studio, Stonehill & Taylor, Charbel Kallab, and Shawmut Construction. The new suites feature interpretations of Federalist interiors reminiscent of New York’s former Railroad hotels of the 1920s.
Both spaces feature stone floors, Calacatta marble wall paneling, antique Persian carpets, vintage maps of the city, and mahogany crown moldings, bases, and bookshelves. Master bathrooms are lined in gray marble, while the reception area is marked with red oak floors and white oak borders. Suites include dressing rooms with built-in millwork pantries and private fitness rooms.
Named for one of the hotel’s most prominent guests, the residential-style six-room penthouse spans 3,000 square feet. Featuring two bedrooms and three bathrooms, the suite’s Federalist look features an understated palette of slate gray, navy, taupe, and gold. Views of Midtown Manhattan and the Chrysler Building are framed through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows. A 1,300-square-foot rooftop boasts ample outdoor living space, while the private terrace is clad with a trellised dining area and decorative fountain.
Located on the hotel’s 15th floor, the presidential suite has been expanded to 3,300 square feet and is outfitted with historic accents, opulent furnishings, and artwork. The two-bedroom suite is detailed in gold, red, and pewter and features ample living and dining areas. The octagonal entry rotunda opens to the reception area, fitness room, and master bedroom, which includes a well-appointed bathroom equipped with a steam shower and freestanding tub. A private library-office and a baby grand piano create a new standard of luxury.
