Kanye West hosted on Thursday its second DONDA listening party at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kanye first debuted the highly-anticipated album in the same venue on July 22, under the expectation that it was going to drop the day after.
DONDA didn’t materialize, but the artist opted to live in the stadium for two weeks as he finished the album. His makeshift living quarters is a simple one that includes only a bed, television and weights, as well as a single suitcase with his YEEZY wares spread out on the ground next to a locker room cubicle
Sporting an all-black outfit with a vest that sports the word DONDA, the artist made his way to the stage that’s set up like his makeshift living quarters. Ye’s intro is a speech made by his later mother and the album’s namesake featuring a verse from Pusha T, followed by a track with Don Toliver and newly-added harmonies from Kid Cudi.
West also put on a spiky black jacket previously seen during the pre-event livestream, just in time for the countdown clock that appeared on the YEEZY GAP website.
Unlike the previous listening party, Ye is joined by more people on stage who are also dressed in all-black and circling him as he stands in his living quarters. The entire crew sported attires and ensembles by Balenciaga‘s Creative Director Demna Gvasalia
Fivio Foreign, who was present during the pre-event livestream, hopped on a new track alongside Playboi Carti. A new verse from Young Thug and Kid Cudi also appear on “Remote,” as well as an offering from Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine and 070 Shake.
A melancholic track hears Ye repeat “I’m losing my family,” while his mother says, “No matter what, you never abandon your family.” Jadakiss and The LOX, Jay Electronica and Nas join West on a cut about finding Jesus, which also includes a message from Larry Hoover’s son; the rapper pleaded to former president Donald Trump for clemency on behalf of Hoover.
There are also the separate tracks featuring the late Pop Smoke and JAY-Z — both of which debuted during the first listening party. Ye debuted the brand new offering (possibly “80 Degrees”) with The Weeknd and Lil Baby, which he previously teased on Instagram with a screenshot of his call log
To close out the listening party, Ye is lifted up with harnesses as “No Child Left Behind” played in the background.
