Housed within a former historical building in the heart of Vienna, Mandarin Oriental Vienna opened its doors early December 2025. The project which had been in the making for over 7 years, marks the first new luxury property opened under Mandarin Oriental’s new Chief Operating Officer, Amanda Hyndman a luxury visionary hotelier who has been instrumental in refining the already strong luxury DNA of the brand.
Tucked away in a smaller street, the facade and the building itself does not give in the entire splendour of the property at first glance, instead, it invites guests for a surprise. Less than 5 minutes from all major downtown attractions, Mandarin Oriental Vienna has been conceived as a sanctuary of serenity, calm and safety – away from the bustle of the city.
Walking down the exquisitely designed hallways, unwinding in the privacy of one’s accommodation or enjoying one of the public spaces of the hotel conveys a deep sense of safety too, especially in today’s turbulent times around the world. The attention to details has been and remains paramount at Mandarin Oriental Vienna. Regardless of the occupancy, no space or venue feels busy. Instead, you will enjoy the luxury of taking your time and letting it go.
Despite the apparent quiet luxury feel, the hotel is awash with WOW factor elements, which lie in the unparalleled quality of furnishings, finishes and decor. Paying tribute to the heritage building, the hotel has carefully and throughly made use of an abundance of subtle Art Deco details. The result has been a vibe and an atmosphere which is deeply luxurious – and at the same time, refined and elegant.
One of the major highlights of Mandarin Oriental Vienna, otherwise discreetly kept, is a novel lobby lounge entirely designed by luxury jewellery Maison Van Cleef & Arpels. The ample space, abundant in natural light, is a superb exercise of the finest interior design, with hand-stitched embroidery on the walls and bespoke furniture pieces which convey the air of an effortlessly conceived space. The lounge space is warm and inviting, without feeling overly luxurious.
Comfort has been taken yet to another level, blending relevance and functionality. No detail has been overlooked, from the controls in the room, to connecting your device on the SmartTv in your room. Shower water-pressure is perfect and it takes 3 seconds for the water to warm up. Similarly, AC warms or cools the air almost instantly, without any intricate settings or fixtures.
The quality of sleep has also been taken to yet another level. Besides the obvious gorgeous mattresses and bedding, the quality of the air, the serenity of the technology and the blackout in the accommodation is flawless. Regardless of the actual positioning of one’s accommodation within the building, soundproofing is of the same superlative standards.
Considering my stay was less than 2 months from opening, the service standards have exceeded all my expectations. With minor glitches, service throughout the entire hotel was consistent, heart-felt, genuine, intuitive and anticipatory. Every single member of the team would go out of their way to please guests while paying attention to their smallest wishes and desires. There is also an evident pursuit to improve and perfect throughout the entire team.
The energy and enthusiasm of the team has also been a notable achievement of the management. I have felt appreciated, respected and value. I have also appreciated being listened to in my sharing of feedback. The team also strived to be fast, proactive and predictive. I have been very pleased to notice all my preferences, wishes and desires from my previous Mandarin Oriental stays have been taken into consideration. Do try the communications through the MO app!
Another less tangible aspect has been Mandarin Oriental’s unique expertise in creating an impeccable synergy with the property owners and making sure there is an unwavering commitment towards investing and perfecting the property. In a mature and established market such as Vienna, Mandarin Oriental’s entry has been most humble and considerate.
