Housed within a heritage La Belle Epoque building in the Old Town of Bucharest, in the very heart of the city, The Marmorosch is the result of extensive multi-million dollar restoration and renovation works. The unparalleled location lends an air of prestige and elegance while at the same time being at the centre of the city’s beating heart, steps from many attractions.
Formerly a bank, The Marmorosch Hotel is majestic in every way – not only with its imposing facade but an array of superb details and hidden secrets. The main lounge / lobby space is grand, with a superb painted glass ceiling which allows for abundant day-light. The space is conceived to ideally house distinct corners for the most diverse wishes of the guests. The former vault of the bank has been beautifully preserved, today being converted into a sophisticated cocktail bar, which is already an attraction equally for both locals and hotel guests.
As it is protected building with such a sensitive location (less than 100 meters from the imposing Romanian National Bank), the conversion process as well as the renovations took place under the watchful eye of authorities, no detail being overlooked. Marmorosch, Blank & Co Bank was a commercial bank which was established in 1848 and was housed within the Palace of the Marmorosch Blank Bank Palatul Băncii Marmorosch Blank din București. After decades of growth the bank became one of the largest in Romania, before it was forced to shut down in 1948.
For such a heritage building in a protected area of the city, the development of the luxury hotel is even more impressive from a construction point of view. One such ‘surprise’ is the indoor heated swimming pool and the Spa which is also equipped with a gym. There is a wide array of body treatments with organic oils from Fitterman and skincare by Sothys.
The adjacent back building which has been connected to the main historical building must have been a technical challenge, considering the centralised individually controlled AC and high water-pressure in all bathrooms. Make sure you opt for the heritage rooms, richly appointed with natural parquet and abundantly adorned with wood works.
Because of the building layout and configuration, you may find the most diverse selection of accommodations in terms of size, style and views – a major advantage to potentially please both leisure and business guests, as well as a wider age group, those preferring a more classic aesthetic versus those prefer a more contemporary one. Lower and very high ceilings, free-standing bathtubs, floor-to-ceiling windows, frescoed walls – are just some of the variety.
The rich architecture of the Art-Deco, as well as the interior design, tell a story of progressive ideas of the time evoking the thrilling sense of historical importance and optimism that is closely tied with the era. Currently hotel features 217 rooms from standard category to suites, 4 meeting and ballrooms, 4 F&B outlets (restaurant, lounge, bar as well as coffee corner).
At the time of my stay, the hotel was still in soft opening phase and I have learned there are plans for implementing some additional Food & Beverage concepts are formats to equally cater for hotel residents and local patrons, as well as foreigners who may be staying at other properties. Breakfast is already a highlight, with a wide selection of quality dishes served in the dedicated restaurant.
For less than a month since opening, service standards at the main dining venues were of a very good standard, with passionate staff going out of their way to please you. A professional and experience Concierge is ready to assist the most discerning guests, to organise experiences and tours in Bucharest but also in the surroundings. Despite what could seemingly be intimidating interiors, the atmosphere is laid back and warm, luxury service being extended in an effortless manner.
The hotel has been developed by Apex Alliance, a company which already extensive experience in Bucharest with 5 hotels affiliated to international chains (Hilton Worldwide & Marriott International). The Marmorosch is ideally associated with the Autograph Collection, a brand owned by Marriott International.
