As every car owner knows, there’s more to owning a car than just buying gas and performing routine maintenance to keep it running smoothly. Granted, nobody wants to spend money on these seemingly-endless requirements. But your car’s accessories? They’re the semi-required stuff you’ll want to accompany you on your ride.
Which Accessories Do You Need?
Trying to pick out the best accessories for your car can be tricky, though. However, you’ll want to have them by your side no matter where you go. These days, there are arguably more accessories out there than the number of replaceable parts already installed on your car.
For a basic luxury car without more than the basic parts, you can have your choice on these:
- Rims: Or to be more precise, the outboard face. It’s the part you see when you look at a car’s wheels. Most cars, even luxury cars, come in with the default designs. However, you can have better-looking outboards based on your preferences.
- Car Jack: You could choose between the trolley, crocodile, or scissor jack. The important thing here is that you’ve got something to use in case you get a blown tire in the middle of nowhere.
- Hood Ornament: If you’re going to invest in a luxury car anyway, why not spring for a fancy hood ornament? Sure, most luxury models come in their own manufacturer’s hood ornaments, but you could also get a custom-made ornament on yours, with your own logo and emblem.
- Cushions and Covers: Be it the dashboard or steering wheel, you can pick your own favorite colors for the covers. You can do the same for the cushions, too, which makes these vehicles a lot more fun to ride in.
Of course, there are more kinds of accessories to choose from. A lot of them depend on your individual needs and your car’s make and model. For instance, full electric vehicles will have other things that hybrids and combustion engine vehicles might not need. Or if you’re an anxious driver, you could also get sensors and cameras installed on it.
Picking Car Accessories
So, how exactly do you choose the best parts for your car? A good rule of thumb for choosing these miscellaneous parts is to check with the manufacturer first. Usually, they’d also make them for your car’s precise make, and they’ll know what fits in there the best.
What if you don’t like what they offer, though? That’s when you should start window shopping. You’ll want to start with picking a reputable shop. The standard rules for picking good stores and vendors fit here. For car accessories, though, you’ll also need to look at a few other factors first.
- Materials: Avoid anything made out of plastic for the outer parts, as they can wear out faster. Rims should always be made from steel or another durable metal alloy. Perhaps the only exceptions to this rule are the hubcaps, which fit over the rim as a design aesthetic, and the hood ornament out front.
- Replaceable Electronics: If you’re not satisfied with the sensors, stereo units, or headrest monitors, then you can easily get rid of them or switch them out for something better. Depending on the complexity of the swap, though, you’ll want to get yourself a good technician.
- Illegal Hood Ornaments: Depending on your location, that running horse on your hood could deal some serious damage in case you accidentally hit a pedestrian. That’s why they are regulated. Be sure to check with your local authorities first if you’re planning to get one custom-made.
- Bundles of Accessories: Some vendors and resellers sell certain parts in bundles. This applies to both luxury and non-luxury cars, too. This means you don’t have to buy parts piece by piece from different vendors when one could sell them all to you at a lower total price.
Confidence In Your Decision
Getting accessories can be just as fun as driving your luxury car, but it can be hectic trying to find the right ones. Do remember, however, that the best accessories make a luxury car just as fun on the inside as it looks on the outside. And by choosing the right ones for your specific type of car, you’ll find that you can enjoy your ride so much more
