Saudi Arabia’s The Red Sea is unprecedented, not only in terms of scale and investment but also as a statement for the entire global luxury hospitality industry. The Red Sea project is redefining how a country destination is being shaped, not only paying homage to its culture and heritage but also respecting the environment while establishing an unparalleled platform for educating and nurturing local talent.
Red Sea Global has made a strategic decision not only to attract the world’s finest luxury hospitality brands to operate its resorts and hotels but also creating several flagship resorts which it owns and operates at the same time. And this is how Shebara and Desert Rock were born, both located in breathtaking locations, on the sea and in the desert. Beyond the sheer beauty of nature, the striking architecture of the two resorts has become recognisable all over the world in less than a year.
And it is not just the architecture but also the interiors which go beyond the aesthetic. The quality of the finishes and materials is flawless, ensuring utmost comfort. No detail has been overlooked in functionality and relevance, from sophisticated AC systems, room controls, water pressure, lighting – while upholding the highest sustainability standards. Technology is state of the art, with UHTVs that have the latest casting features from another device, as well as superb sound system.
You will be impressed with the actual spread and architectural planning which ensure the utmost serenity and privacy of guests – regardless of the occupancy. Although almost invisible to the naked eye, each villa is different in terms of positioning and views – even if at first glance they may seem identical. Guests can opt between a beachfront or an overwater villa, which are actually complementary – I highly recommend experiencing both types during your stay. The sunset or sunrise may seem quite different!
The sleep experience at Shebara can rival any of the top luxury resorts around the world. From the bedding, mattresses, linen, towels, to the amenities, all the villas offer a truly outstanding experience. The furniture pieces are bespoke and so are all the decor elements – every inch has been carefully planned and conceived. The open plan bathrooms are staggering – the rain shower with chromotherapy is divine! As much as I rejoiced over the spectacular outdoors, I equally enjoyed the comfort of my villa.
Serenity, tranquility and privacy are paramount ! Arriving at Shebara, will make you pause and reflect. There is an incredible sense of familiarity and warmth. While at first, I was tempted to capture on camera every moment and every angle of the resort, I found myself enjoy so much more while keeping the experience to myself. Waking up in the morning listening to my favourite Ennio Morricone track while sitting on my terrace and contemplating the sea was one of my favourite ‘moments’ at Shebara. I enjoyed thrilling experiences at the Spa and the two superb dining venues, but I also took joy in a late night in-room dining.
But probably the biggest achievement of Red Sea Global Hospitality is to have have achieved and maintained world class luxury hospitality service standards in less than a year since opening, without any association or affiliation of the two resorts to any hotel chain or a hotel group. Both Shebara and Desert Rock have been strategically attracting young talent from all over Saudi Arabia who are genuinely proud to represent their country in such flagship projects which have become a symbol all over the world.
I was also struck by the humbleness and humility of the team, who truly go out of their way to fulfil one’s wishes and desires. They all strive for the ultimate personalisation and individualisation of services. You will be pleasantly surprised that staff address you by your name at any encounter. I was also pleased to notice how each of the team members strives to adapt to the type of service of certain guests – some are more outgoing and casual, while others are more formal.
In addition to the newly opened Red Sea International Airport, Red Sea Global has been investing in education and medical care, with hospitals and clinics coming up soon. Red Sea Global has not only been focusing on delivering world class experiences for tourists and visitors but also making sure that employees and staff benefit from the best quality of life as they embark on a career in Saudi Arabia – and this can already be felt !
