Centrally located in the heart of Cairo, Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis is just 10 minutes from Cairo International Airport and steps away from the Presidential Palace and the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum. The hotel is ideally positioned for business and leisure travellers alike. It boasts 252 luxurious rooms and suites, an exquisite dining venue as well as a state of the art Spa, including an outdoor pool. The property has been fully renovated in 2004, with an exquisite contemporary interior design, which is both elegant and comfortable.
The main highlight of the hotel is an impressive glass atrium running through the entire height of the building which houses an expansive botanical garden, with a beautiful array of lush greenery where guests can unwind and relax, away from the bustle of the city. The botanical gardens lend a sense of exclusivity and privacy. Rooms and suites are among the largest in Cairo at five star hotels. All accommodations feature impeccable soundproofing ensuring utmost serenity and calm Bedding is of the highest luxury standards with superb high thread linen and top quality mattresses. I have also enjoyed the exceptional bathrooms which boast separate bathtub and walk-in show, with bespoke Sodashi amenities.
Believed to provide strength and power, the white and blue lotus which adorn the rooms are often found within ancient Egyptian decorations and have been subtly incorporated into the design and artwork of the beautifully appointed rooms and suites. From the hand painted ceramics, plush velvet fabrics and marble mosaic tiles to the locally inspired artwork and intricately detailed rugs, each design element has been meticulously curated to reflect the cultural history of Egypt whilst providing a comfortable and luxurious haven for guests.
Guests at Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis can take advantage of the bespoke Personal Concierge service enjoyed at Waldorf Astoria hotels globally. The experience begins pre-arrival as the team works with guests to tailor their stay to their exact preferences and requirements. During the stay guests receive a personal welcome at check-in and escort to room, as well as assistance with any special requests, and upon departure, a complimentary bag packing service and a swift checkout is offered.
The hotel’s signature restaurant, Brasserie Ayda serves an eclectic ‘Mediterranean-without-Borders’ menu which is conceived to cater to the most diverse tastes. With stylish interiors designed to resemble a Mediterranean garden, the open kitchen, vibrant bar and pretty terrace offer a buzzing energy from breakfast right through to dinner – all using fresh, seasonal ingredients. The quality of food is exceptional and so is service! Even if the property was running a high occupancy, breakfast was a wonderful experience, with staff being attentive and courteous, striving to fulfil all individual wishes.
Peacock Alley, a signature lounge found at Waldorf Astoria properties around the world, serves as an ideal venue for both sophisticated and informal gatherings where guests can enjoy specialty Arabic coffee and artisanal pastries, or delight in afternoon tea and expertly crafted cocktails with Egyptian mezze dishes. Channelling a bygone era, Bar Raa is named after the ancient Egyptian sun god and offers an intimate, elegant atmosphere. It features a menu of sharing bites, creative cocktails and premium beverages. All the venues are also attracting locals, non-resident guests, which is an exceptional validation for the hotel.
Waldorf Astoria Spa is inspired by nature and features four state-of-the-art treatment suites, each providing a full guest bathroom and private relaxation zone, and one multipurpose treatment room. Guests can enjoy a comprehensive menu of treatments from face to body, including a traditional Hammam scrub experience. The spa also features Psammo Therapy treatment tables in two of the suites. Psammo, otherwise known as hot sand therapy, was a tradition of the ancient Egyptians, and delivers a cocooning and comforting effect, surrounding the limbs with heat – the perfect complement to any treatment. I enjoyed a signature massage with a highly skilled therapist.
Service throughout the entire property was consistently hight at any time of the day. Staff are genuinely warm and welcoming, both efficient and intuitive. The team is constantly striving to provide the most personalised approach, remembering preferences and wishes for each guest. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by name throughout all the venues and departments. The attention to details is paramount. And the hotel is striving to maintain flawlessly the hotel product.
